Should School Board members be involved in the development of curriculum?

Yes

The School Board needs to have top level involvement to ensure that all the schools curriculum is consistent, that the curriculum is meeting educational standards and that the curriculum is not infringing on the rights of citizens. As a nonpartisan elected official the school board members represent all the citizens and perform this function to ensure that a government employee doesn't make a partisan or biased decision towards the curriculum.

This requires the ability to do unbiased analysis and in my opinion, all school board members should have experience in this type of analysis. As a prior military officer that conducted intelligence analysis, I was trained in unbiased analysis, and performed unbiased analysis as part of my daily duties. All decisions by the school board that evolve curriculum changes need to be accompanied by a white paper that spells out why the school board felt the need to be involved in the school administration decision process. This white paper must have the details to ensure transparency to the citizens of Manatee County. I also have years of experience from working for the Department of Defense in the field Plans that specifically wrote Policies and I often created white papers on policies that required deep dive unbiased intelligence analysis.

 Yesterday, 22 July 2022, the President of the Manatee County Republican Party sent an email out to the registered emails of Republican that endorses three Republicans running for School Board, which is a nonpartisan position. From my perspective, this unethical and illegal. Basically the Republican Party President, Steve Vernon, is directly campaigning for nonpartisan candidates. I wonder what other help they are getting from the Republican Party Leaders in this community. With recent conversations about curriculum, how will you ensure that students will receive a well-rounded education?

With recent conversations about curriculum, how will you ensure that students will receive a well-rounded education?  I will push for the creation of a tiger team of teachers and administrators to create a plan for improvements. This plan needs to be briefed to the superintendent and the school board in a working group while it is being developed, so corrections and concerns can be addressed during the developmental phase. The end product will have been properly reviewed by the school board during its creation to ensure that it represents the public concerns and desires. I would conduct analysis of this plan through the entire process and identify conscious subjects and bring these up for a vote by the board. I would then vote in a manner that was presented in my platform, which is as a conservative that values cost effective innovation with traditional value instilled to enhance the learning environment while creating students that value future learning opportunities.
