The reason that For-profit charter schools are important is not just because they afford parents with choices but that they also create competition with the government schools. This competition helps to identify areas for improvement in government schools. All school competition, when properly evaluated, provides data points for improvement.  The basic aspects of this competition is to motivate both private and public sectors to provide a high quality product to continue financial support.
